If someone is sick enough to require oxygen for COVID, corticosteroid treatment, which suppresses the immune system, leads to improved health outcomes. In short, there is a sweet spot for acute inflammation: Not too much, not too little is best. https://

We were told that the system was rigged and that no cheap generic drug would therefore ever be studied and much less FDA authorized for COVID-19. Then dexamethasone came along and blew up that narrative. It's now the cornerstone of inpatient management. h

@ZMallat @NEJMEvidence interesting point! after the recovery trial I gave it for granted https://t.co/pxoO0oCcEh ‘among patients receiving oxygen without invasive mechanical ventilation mortality was 23.3% (glucorticoids) vs. 26.2%; rate ratio, 0.82; 95
The percieved transmission risk of CPAP and high flow wasnt as severe as first feared. The wave wasnt as sharp so less chaos and resources were managed in better ways. Most importantly we had treatments that significanyly reduced the need for ventilators.
